Facial Rejuvenation / Cosmetic Acupuncture
Facial rejuvenation includes a collection of natural and holistic modalities that enhance and repair the skin.
The most well-known modality, cosmetic acupuncture, involves the insertion of tiny needles, which are fine in diameter and shallow in depth, yet highly effective in their ability to increase circulation and oxygen supply to the skin, flush out bacteria, and stimulate repair proteins in the form of collagen and elastin fibres. The result is improved tone and texture, reduced fine lines and a brighter, clearer complexion from the inside out.
Other facial rejuvenation modalities like cupping, gua sha, and lymphatic massage may be included in a cosmetic acupuncture visit, as they are symbiotic to the process of revitalizing skin quality, while also working to release muscle tension due to unconscious habitual patterns and expressions.
For these modalities, many people notice a shift after just one treatment, but for maximum benefit, a series of semi regular treatments is recommended as a way to teach the skin where to build and repair on its own. Weekly or twice a month for the first six sessions is ideal, depending on individual starting points and end goals. Thereafter, a maintenance visit every few months is perfect for keeping things stable, both internally and externally.
In addition, microneedling, also known as epidermal collagen induction therapy is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for a reduction in fine lines, and acne scars, by improving skin strength and integrity. During the procedure, a sterile disposable needle cartridge is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin, softening wrinkles, firming, and plumping. Microneedling also creates micro-channels, which allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing their effects into deeper layers of the dermis.
For microneedling, some skin types will only require one or two sessions to achieve a desired result. For those with more significant skin-care concerns, such as deep and protracted acne scars, or decreased laxity and thickness, a series of two to three treatments spaced about six to eight weeks apart has been shown to yield optimal outcomes.
